DETROIT (AP) — A General Motors Co. spokesman says the automaker does not have a deal to sell its Swedish Saab brand, but it is still in talks with Dutch luxury car maker Spyker Cars NV over a possible sale.
GM spokesman Chris Preuss in Detroit would not say if GM was close to a deal for Saab, and he said it is continuing to shut down Saab’s operations.
GM and Spyker talked through the weekend trying to work out a deal to save Saab. GM has decided to jettison the brand as part of its restructuring plan to focus on four core brands, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.
GM Chairman Ed Whitacre Jr. has scheduled a news conference for 11:30 a.m. Eastern in Detroit to provide to provide an update on business activities.
