Guilty plea for Orondo orchard murder

WATERVILLE, Wash. (AP) — A man who stabbed a co-worker at an orchard near Orondo pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Douglas County Superior Court and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The plea Monday from 30-year-old Eliseo Aguirre Fuentes avoided a trial on a first-degree charge.

The Wenatchee World reports Aguirre was arrested in October 2007 in the stabbing of 31-year-old Gabriel Garcia Cabanas. Aguirre told deputies the two traveled from Mexico and that Garcia had raped him. Aguirre said he waited for a time to kill Garcia and buried him in the orchard.

Aguirre also said he had been raped while jailed in 2008 in Chelan County. Sheriff Mike Harum said that was false because Aguirre was in isolation — without cellmates — at the time.
