NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — A Coast Guard cargo plane made a special stop at Newport, Ore., to pick up two sea turtles stranded last fall on Oregon and Washington beaches.
With “Myrtle” and “Maude” safely aboard, the C-130 flew to San Diego on Thursday, where the turtles were handed over to employees from the SeaWorld turtle rehabilitation center. They had received initial care at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.
Lt. Cmdr. Wes Hester, the commander of the plane based at Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, said the flight was uneventful with the two passengers quiet and cooperative.
