WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he’s gratified that Ben Bernanke has won a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve and looks forward to working with him in the days ahead.

The Senate voted 70-30 Thursday to give Bernanke a new four-year term.

Obama says Bernanke has provided “wisdom and steady leadership” during the financial and economic crisis. Although the economy is showing some signs of recovery, Obama says he needs Bernanke’s help for the rebuilding work that lies ahead.

Some lawmakers blame Bernanke for failing to spot the troubles that led to the crisis. But his supporters credit him with preventing a repeat of the Great Depression of the 1930s.
