VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A Clark County deputy auditor who says she issued a marriage license to Tonya Harding and a southwest Washington man calls them “a very nice couple.”

Deputy Auditor Karen Updike told The Columbian she issued the license to the 39-year-old Harding and 42-year-old Joseph Jens Price on June 23.

The auditor’s office received the signed license back on Tuesday, indicating the wedding had taken place.

Updike says Harding arrived at the Public Service Center before Price and apologized for his tardiness. The deputy auditor said the two “seemed very happy together.”

Updike says her memories of Harding all involve her skating talents.

A national figure skating champion in 1991 and a two-time Olympian, Harding in 1994 was banned for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association because of her role in an attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan. Harding’s then-husband Jeff Gillooly helped plan the assault.

Harding later had a short career as a professional boxer.
