Vancouver temperatures are expected to surpass the century mark today for the first time in a year, according to area meteorologists.

The mercury hit 108 degrees a year ago and is predicted to notch 100 degrees today.

To help seniors and others handle the heat, cooling centers have been set up throughout Clark County.

For information, visit the Clark Regional Emergency Service Agency blog.

The record high temperature in Vancouver today is 97 degrees, set all the way back in 1926, according to Steve Pierce, the vice president of the Oregon chapter of the American Meteorological Society.

Pierce predicts temperatures will drop into the lower 90s on Friday and into the 80s over the weekend.
