Planning to renew your driver’s license or vehicle license next week? You might want to wait until Wednesday.

Some licensing offices will be closed for business Monday and some will be closed Tuesday as state employees take the first of several unpaid furlough days they’ll be required to during the next year.

Licensing offices that are normally open Monday through Friday will be closed Monday. Those normally open Tuesday through Saturday will be closed Tuesday.

“While our offices are closed on these days, many of our services are available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Liz Luce, department director. “ You may be able to renew or replace your driver’s license or ID card, obtain a copy of your driving record, and renew your vehicle tabs from the comfort of your home.”

The Legislature approved furlough days for state employees this year in the face of a $2.8 billion budget shortfall.
