ATLANTA (AP) — Two football players for the University of Georgia have been arrested on alcohol-related charges, just days after the school’s athletic director resigned in the wake of a drunken driving arrest.

UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said Dontavius Deshawn Jackson, a sophomore tailback, was charged early Saturday with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and other offenses.

Split end Tavarres King was charged with underage possession of alcohol.

Police said they initially stopped the Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Jackson for a traffic violation and because officers suspected it was involved in an earlier hit-and-run crash.

Jackson did not return phone messages, and a listing for King was unavailable.

Athletic director Damon Evans announced his resignation Tuesday.
