CLEVELAND (AP) — A person familiar with the move says the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed restricted free agent guard Kyle Lowry to an offer sheet.

The Cavs have offered Lowry, a reserve for Houston, a three-year contract, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Rockets have seven days to match Cleveland’s package.

Cleveland is looking to bolster its roster after losing free agent superstar LeBron James, who was sent to Miami in a sign-and-trade deal. The Cavs also lost center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who is following James to the Miami Heat.

A five-year veteran, Lowry is a strong defender and could back up Mo Williams at the point. He averaged 9.1 points and 4.5 assists last season.
