EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The University of Oregon is ending its undergraduate program in the Bend area at the request of the state Board of Higher Education, leaving the entire job to Oregon State University.

The board decided to consolidate undergraduate classes under the OSU banner after a review by a special advisory group.

Oregon State opened its OSU-Cascades branch campus in Bend in 2001 in a partnership with Central Oregon Community College after the University of Oregon lost its bid to open a branch.

Under the partnership, students enroll at Central Oregon to take lower-division classes and then transfer to OSU for upper-division classes while remaining in Bend.

The state had allowed the University of Oregon to offer classes that enrolled students separately in a different building and awarded separate degrees.
