YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Damage is estimated at more than $1 million from the fire that destroyed a large building at the former Boise Cascade lumber mill at Yakima.
It was reported at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday and burned through the morning.
Yakima Deputy Fire Marshal Ron Melcher told the Yakima Herald-Republic about 40 firefighters responded from several departments. They suppressed flames that had spread to a second building, and they prevented a large pile of bark from catching fire.
Several explosions apparently were caused by fuel or welding tanks in the building.
No injuries. No word yet on how the fire started.
A fire at the site last September was started by spontaneous combustion at a wood-chipping operation that shut down in April.
