SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Heavily favored Devil May Care took command leaving the stretch turn and drew away to an authoritative 4-length victory in the $250,000 Coaching Club American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies Saturday at Saratoga Race Course.

John Velazquez rode the Todd Pletcher-trained Devil May Care to her third straight victory over members of her own sex, a streak interrupted by a 10th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby.

The Coaching Club Oaks, in which she ran 1 1-8 miles in 1:49.42 after being rated behind a moderate pace, was her fifth career win from eight career starts. Biofuel was a decisively beaten second and Acting Happy finished third of six.

Devil May Care earned $150,000 for owner Glencrest Farm and paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10. Biofuel paid $4 and $2.60. Acting Happy paid $2.50 to show.

Connie and Michael, the co-second choice on the advance betting line, and long shot Lisa’s Booby Trap were scratched from the Oaks.
