PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 50-year-old Aloha woman who was shot by a Washington County sheriff’s deputy told The Oregonian she intended to commit suicide by cop.
Mary Joanne Diershaw said she was depressed over losing her 7-year-old son to foster care when she called 911 on July 1 and said she planned to kill a girl.
She was in an apartment parking lot when she was confronted by deputies and refused to pull her hand out of a pocket. When she started to pull a silver-colored object from her coat, she was shot. It was a comb.
Diershaw was wounded in the arm and chest. She says she wishes deputies had used a Taser on her instead of a handgun. The district attorney’s office is reviewing the shooting.
