VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Fire officials say a car fire at the drive-thru window of a Vancouver, Wash., McDonald’s restaurant spread to the building, causing extensive damage.

The Columbian reports than an 80-year-old woman was waiting for her order Wednesday at the pickup window when the motorist behind her saw flames coming from beneath her car. That man jumped out to tell her the car was on fire and pulled her to safety.

Flames spread from the car to the restaurant kitchen and employees called 911. Twelve employees and some customers evacuated.

The newspaper says two employees were taken to local hospitals for treatment of smoke-related ailments.

Fire spokesman Jim Flaherty says it took fire crews about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.
