VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Damage has been estimated at $1 million from a car fire at the drive-thru window of a Vancouver, Wash., McDonald’s that spread to the restaurant.

The owner of the McDonald’s that caught fire Wednesday says she plans to rebuild. Val Hadwin is co-owner of North Star Restaurants, which includes 15 McDonald’s in southwest Washington.

Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Jim Flaherty says it’s unclear what caused the car fire and exactly how the flames spread from the car to the building.

An 80-year-old woman was pulled from the car by a man behind her in the drive-thru line who spotted the flames. Twelve employees were evacuated and two were treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Hadwin says the employees from the burned McDonald’s will be transferred to other locations she owns with her husband Matt Hadwin.
