PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A wildfire has grown to 2,200 acres in the remote John Day River canyon in Eastern Oregon.

The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center reports Thursday that the Boxcar fire jumped the wild and scenic section of the John Day River in an area about 13 miles north of Clarno.

The fire started from lightning strikes two days ago and is making short runs in steep rocky terrain covered with grass, sagebrush and juniper. Two structures are threatened.

So far 121 people, three helicopters and five engines are fighting the fire, and there has been no containment.

Fire camp is being set up at Wheeler High School in Fossil.
