PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The government has been docking the disability checks of a former Oregon National Guard soldier who was wounded in Iraq.

KGW-TV reports $120 is taken from the $800 monthly check for Gary Pfleider. That’s to pay a $3,000 bill for gear he was wearing when he was hit in the leg in September 2007 by a sniper.

Pfleider says he has no idea what happened to the body armor and flak vest because he was “out of it” for about 16 hours as he struggled to survive. He now wears and brace and walks with a cane.

Congressman Kurt Schrader is helping, and the Army and Oregon National Guard are reviewing the case.
