Officers with the Vancouver Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office will run with Special Olympics athletes, starting today at 9 a.m. outside the Clark County Courthouse at 1200 Franklin St. in downtown Vancouver.

The occasion is the 2010 Law Enforcement Torch Run, which will end later today at the sheriff’s West Precinct office, 505 N.W. 179th St. near the fairgrounds.

The annual run is done just before the Special Olympics Summer Games begin Friday at Fort Lewis.

“Dignity, acceptance, and a chance to reach one’s potential — these are human rights worth promoting for everyone,” says the Special Olympics website, http://www.specialolympics.org. “Since 1968, Special Olympics has been bringing one message to the world: people with intellectual disabilities can and will succeed if given the opportunity.”
