NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have suspended linebacker Gerald McRath without pay for the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The Titans released a statement confirming the suspension near the end of Monday’s minicamp session.

McRath’s suspension starts Sept. 4, and he cannot return to the roster until Oct. 4.

McRath started five games at outside linebacker as a rookie in 2009. He has been working at that spot all offseason and is a strong candidate to earn the job this season.

He was a fourth-round draft pick out of Southern Mississippi.
