BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Bruins have signed a two-year contract extension with defenseman Johnny Boychuk.

The team’s announcement Thursday did not disclose terms, according to club policy.

The 26-year-old Boychuk had five goals, 10 assists and 43 penalty minutes in 51 regular-season games for the Bruins in his first full NHL season.

He had played a total of five regular-season games with the Bruins and Colorado Avalanche, who drafted him in 2002. Colorado traded him to the Bruins for Matt Hendricks in June 2008.

Boychuk was the American Hockey League’s top defenseman for the 2008-2009 season when he played with Boston’s affiliate in Providence.
