PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland artist has been chosen to paint the official portrait of Gov. Ted Kulongoski.

Eduardo Fernandez tells The Oregonian that this is the first time he’s painted the portrait of a public figure or someone in government. He says he’s excited about doing the painting, which will hang in the state Capitol in Salem.

Kulongoski is in his final year of his term. It’s a tradition that Oregon governors have a portrait done once they leave office. The 49-year-old Fernandez says he and the governor chose an office in the Supreme Court Building as the setting for the painting. Kulongoski served four years as a justice.
