Jones, Prairie View A&M hold off Southern U. 75-69

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Christopher Jones scored 19 points and hit three free throws in the final 17 seconds to help Prairie View A&M defeat Southern University 75-69 on Thursday night.

The Panthers (16-12, 11-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led by as much as 70-56 on Tim Meadows’ layup with 3:33 left.

The Jaguars (5-24, 3-14), however, used a 13-2 run to pull within 72-69 on Julius Ingram’s dunk with 17 seconds left.

Jones then hit a free throw, Southern’s Nick walls turned the ball over and Jones hit two more foul shots with 6 seconds left for the final margin.

Prairie View A&M scored 22 points off 16 turnovers, outrebounded the Jaguars 48-33 and scored 19 second-chance points.

Brandon Webb added 17 points and Darnell Hugee and Meadows chipped in 13 each for the Panthers.

Ingram paced Southern with 16 points and Jazz Williams added 12.
