OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A Yelm woman accused of giving a narcotic painkiller to her infant daughter because the baby was cranky pleaded not guilty to drug and assault charges.

The Olympian reports the girl was unconscious last October when she was flown to Mary Bridge children’s hospital in Tacoma. She’s now in the custody of a relative.

Court papers say the mother, 20-year-old Aliese Marie Gatlin, admitted to Thurston County deputies she put a Percocet pill in the baby bottle.

Gatlin pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance to a person under 18 and third-degree assault of a child.
