PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes is flying to New York for tests after doctors in Florida discovered a thyroid imbalance.

The team said Friday that Reyes will undergo further tests on Monday, and it could take up to 48 after for doctors to receive the results. Reyes is not expected to take part in any physical activity while he is gone.

Mets GM Omar Minaya said the Mets are being cautious with Reyes, who played in only 36 games last year because of a hamstring injury.

Doctors cleared Reyes to play on Friday, after he took a follow-up blood test to one conducted during his physical. However, Minaya said team doctors in New York wanted to take a closer look at the star shortstop.
