Ore. railyard death ruled suicide

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Feb. 6 death of an engineer at the Eugene railyard has been ruled a suicide.

The Register-Guard newspaper reports police initially thought the death of 44-year-old Ronald Leo Langlois might have been a homicide. But investigators now say the Springfield man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

The gun was found about 10 feet from his body and was submerged in water, making fingerprint analysis difficult. Eugene police Capt. Chuck Tilby says detectives spent weeks interviewing relatives and co-workers, and determined his actions preceding death were consistent with someone who commits suicide.

Langlois, a married father of three, had been driving trains since 2005.
