Seven schools in Clark County were among 174 public schools named Washington Achievement Award winners on Wednesday, under a new accountability matrix employed by the State Board of Education.
Under the matrix developed in 2009, student performance was graded in five areas, mostly by statewide test scores: reading, writing, math and science tests, and extended graduation rates to include high school students who take longer than four years to graduate.
Each category was weighed by four indicators: achievement by students from low-income families; achievement by those not from low-income families; achievement measured against peer sub-groups such as disabilities, English language learners, gifted or low-income homes and mobility; and improvement of all students from the previous year.
Local winners, to be recognized with celebrations May 5:
• Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, for overall excellence;
• Battle Ground High School, for extended graduation rate;
• CAM Junior-Senior High School (Battle Ground), for science and overall excellence;
• Camas High School, for language arts and overall excellence;
• Liberty Middle School (Camas), for overall excellence;
• Skyridge Middle School (Camas), for overall excellence;
• Hockinson High School, for extended graduation rate.
