FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — The King County medical examiner’s office says a Federal Way policeman who collapsed while guarding a crime scene died of an irregular heartbeat.

The medical examiner identified the officer Monday as 34-year-old Brian Walsh.

Police say the officer was found collapsed in his patrol vehicle and pronounced dead early Sunday morning.

An officer-involved shooting had occurred earlier Sunday as officers tried to catch a suspected car thief.

Police say a young man rammed three police vehicles with a stolen SUV, prompting officers to fire on the fleeing vehicle.

A 17-year-old driver was struck in the arm and arrested shortly thereafter.

Walsh had served with the Federal Way force for 412 years and is survived by his wife and two children.
