CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — The father of Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram Jr. will spend extra time in federal prison after jumping bail in an attempt to watch his son play football.

The younger Ingram is a star running back at Alabama and won the Heisman Trophy in December. His father was a star receiver for the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Prosecutors say Ingram Sr. failed to surrender in December 2008 to begin serving a money laundering and bank fraud sentence.

Ingram had been free on bail and disappeared after being denied a request to remain free until after his son competed in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. He was arrested Jan. 3, 2009, in a Michigan motel room.

The 27-month term he was given Monday in New York will be tacked onto a sentence of more than seven years from his previous conviction.
