PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The man convicted of shooting another man to death at a Portland church during a funeral was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Multnomah County Circuit Judge Kenneth Walker told 32-year-old Latwan Brown at Monday’s sentencing that feeling disrespected is not reason enough to kill someone.

Brown pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the December 2008 shooting of Darshawn Cross inside the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

The Oregonian newspaper reports both men had a history of gang involvement. They were attending the funeral of Sharon Lynn Kemp when a fight broke out in the back of the church and four shots were fired.
