Nothing lucky about Derby favorite Lookin At Lucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Lookin At Lucky has been plagued by bad luck again, denying trainer Bob Baffert a fourth Kentucky Derby victory.

The Derby favorite drew the dreaded No. 1 post, and Baffert’s worst fears were realized on a rainy Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Lookin At Lucky broke sharply but was immediately pinned down along the rail, never getting clear running room until much too late before finishing a disappointing sixth.

The result continued a the pattern of tough luck races for the 3-year-old colt, including his final prep in the Santa Anita Derby where he finished third after encountering traffic along the rail.

Baffert wasn’t the only Hall of Famer who was disappointed on a day trainer Todd Pletcher got his first Derby win.
