SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Longtime Boston Globe reporter Jackie MacMullan and Cleveland Cavaliers radio play-by-play announcer Joe Tait will receive the Curt Gowdy Media Awards from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

MacMullan is the first woman to receive the honor in its 21-year history.

The awards are presented annually to members of the print and electronic media who made a significant contribution to the game of basketball.

MacMullan collaborated with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on a book released last year, “When the Game Was Ours.” Tait is in his 38th season covering the NBA.

The awards will be presented Aug. 12, a day before the Class of 2010 is enshrined into the hall in Springfield, Mass.
