PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man accused of a cold case killing in Portland was acquitted.

The Oregonian reports the verdict Tuesday in the trial of Shawntell Moses left the victim’s family weeping outside the courtroom.

Jurors said there was not enough evidence to convict Moses in the 1995 stabbing death of 30-year-old Kala Kim Peterson. She was found dead on a city sidewalk.

His cousin, Dana Rankins, previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and robbery and testified against Moses. Rankins was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

A tip led police to reopen the case last year and arrest Rankins and Moses.
