SHANGHAI (AP) — Olympic hurdles champion Dayron Robles of Cuba is skipping this month’s meet in Shanghai, preventing a showdown with Chinese star Liu Xiang.

Robles’ name is not on the list of athletes who have entered the elite meet May 23. This is the second stop of the new Diamond League tour.

Liu is one of China’s most popular athletes. He is to run in the 110-meter hurdles despite an Achilles’ tendon injury that forced him to pull out last weekend’s meet in Osaka, Japan. If healthy, he will face world champion Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados.

The meet also is to feature Jamaican sprint great Usain Bolt.
