GIG HARBOR, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a sheriff’s deputy reportedly has shot his in-laws and barricaded himself in a Gig Harbor home with his children.

Spokesman Ed Troyer said Friday night the mother-in-law has been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle while the father-in-law’s condition is unknown.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many children are involved.

Troyer says the deputy had been on medical light duty for a year and a half and was cleared to come back to work three months ago.

The News Tribune says Tacoma police will handle the investigation.
