GIG HARBOR, Wash. (AP) — Tacoma police say a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot his in-laws Friday night and barricaded himself in a Gig Harbor home.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the father-in-law is believed to be dead in the house. Tacoma police Detective Gretchen Aguirre said late Friday night the mother-in-law also died. The News Tribune reports the mother-in-law was able to crawl from the house to nearby woods and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Troyer says teenage children who had been in the house are out and safe.

The deputy identified as Allen Myron remains in the house. Aquirre says he has been talking with police negotiators. A Tacoma police SWAT unit also has been called out. Myron is reportedly an 11-year sheriff’s department veteran.

Troyer says the deputy had been on medical light duty for a year and a half and was cleared to come back to work three months ago.

Gig Harbor is about 25 miles southwest of Seattle.
