Big road projects in Seaside may have to wait

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) — Major improvement projects involving overpasses and intersections in the city of Seaside along U.S. Highway 101 may have to wait at least 20 years.

The Daily Astorian reported that a timetable drafted by the Oregon Department of Transportation to be included in the Seaside transportation system development plan does not contain any highway bypass project.

The newspaper also said improvements to the 24th Avenue and U.S. Highway 101 intersection estimated to cost $22.4 million are listed in a category of projects not considered reasonably likely to be funded within 20 years.

Two other projects — a $5.4 million widening project and a $9.9 million overpass — are also included in that category.

Erik Havig, ODOT planning and development director, said they were “not reasonably likely” because they are big-ticket items.
