Chiefs hoping to get strong running game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs had one of the best offseason pickups when they signed free agent running back Thomas Jones to a two-year deal.

Paired with rising star Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs have two 1,000-yard rushers in the same backfield. They also picked up the versatile Dexter McCluster in the draft.

Now, the Chiefs have to find someone to block for them.

Kansas City’s offensive line was shaky much of last season and while it should be better with the additions of Ryan Lilja and Casey Wiegmann, there are still question marks.

Jones ran for a career-best 1,402 yards and had 14 touchdowns last season, helping the New York Jets reach the AFC Championship game. Even at 31, he should be a nice complement to Charles, who ran for 1,120 yards in 2009.
