VANCOUVER — Clark County’s first high school to earn certification for increased recycling and food-waste composting will be honored Tuesday.

Officials from Clark County Environmental Services, which oversees efforts, will award Fort Vancouver High School with Level 1 Washington Green School certification.

A ceremony takes place at 2:30 p.m. at the school, 5700 E. 18th St.

The tribute follows the creation of a student-staff-faculty Green Team that assessed the campus and found opportunities to eliminate waste. A recent audit found minimal amounts of paper, bottles or cans in the school’s garbage.

Fort Vancouver is the 19th school in Washington to earn Level 1 status; two elementary schools in Clark County have previously qualified. Currently, 95 schools in the state are active in the Green School program, 20 of them in Clark County.
