MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A southern Oregon charity that claimed to help military veterans has been shut down by the state.

As part of a settlement, organizers of the group called No Veterans Left Behind agreed to pay $4,800 to the Oregon Veterans’ Home.

The Oregon Department of Justice says organizers set up booths in front of major retail stores in several Oregon counties.

They told store owners and shoppers that No Veterans Left Behind was an all-volunteer outfit that gave between 75 to 80 percent of its donated proceeds to needy veterans.

The Department of Justice said organizers kept most of the donations instead.

The department recently announced two additional lawsuits against veterans’ charities.
