CHICAGO (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-hander Adam Ottavino and purchased the contract of left-hander Evan MacLane from Triple-A Memphis.
Ottavino is scheduled to make his major league debut in a start against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday in place of Kyle Lohse.
Ottavino was 4-3 with a 4.17 ERA at Triple-A Memphis. MacLane was 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 10 starts.
Lohse had surgery on his right forearm in Los Angeles on Friday and was being treated for exertional compartment syndrome. The exercise-induced neuromuscular condition causes pain and swelling in the legs or arms.
The Cardinals optioned right-handed reliever Fernando Salas and outfielder Joe Mather to Memphis to make room for Ottavino and MacLane.
