Incumbent Nancy Barnes extended her lead Monday over Mike Lyons in the race for a spot on the Clark Public Utilities board of commissioners.

Barnes had 58,321 votes while Lyons had 57,640 votes — an edge of 681 — in updated totals announced by the Clark County elections office.

Barnes had a 656-vote edge in Friday’s ballot count.

Barnes has 50.02 percent of the votes after Monday’s update, while Lyons has 49.43 percent.

“It’s still not within the recount range yet,” Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey said.

Candidates must be within half a percentage point to trigger an automatic recount.

“There still are 800 to 900 ballots left to count — primarily with signature issues,” Kimsey said.

The election office will count about 200 more ballots today and will announce another update this afternoon, Kimsey said.
