Share, Inc., is looking for your help as it prepares to bring Thanksgiving to 300 local families and 900 needy children.

Share wants to package and deliver food boxes containing complete holiday meals — and it wants to send supplemental Thanksgiving food packs home with children participating in Share’s backpack program.

“We appeal to the generous nature of our community to help Share make the holidays just a little brighter for those families who struggle daily to make ends meet,” said Share executive director Diane McWithey.

Donations of cash and gift cards to local grocery stores are needed to purchase turkeys and other perishable food items for Thanksgiving food boxes. And nonperishable food items, like pre-packed stuffing mixes, instant mashed potatoes and canned vegetables, can be delivered to the Share Service Center at 2306 N.E, Andresen Road. Call 360-750-4436, ext. 309, to schedule a drop-off. Food donations should be received by Nov. 19.

Share’s Thanksgiving food boxes will contain: a turkey (18 to 22 lbs.), instant mashed potatoes or a five-pound bag of potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes or canned yams, a box of stuffing, gravy mix or canned gravy, marshmallows, green beans or canned vegetable, rolls, disposable roasting pan, dried onions, cream soup and pie. The supplemental food packs will include the above items minus the turkey.

Share is a primary local provider of services to the hungry and homeless. It operates four shelters and numerous other programs. Visit www.sharevancouver.org.
