CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Chad Gray scored 22 points to lead eight Coastal Carolina players in double figures in a season-opening 112-52 win over Piedmont College on Friday night.
The Chanticleers shot 62.3 percent for the game (43 of 69) while the Lions shot a respectable 42.6 (23 of 54).
However, Piedmont, a Division III team treating the game as an exhibition, was overwhelmed by the Chanticleers, who led 54-21 at halftime.
The Lions led 11-9 on a layup by Josh Haymore, but Coastal Carolina then went on a 38-6 run to blow the game open. The Chanticleers led by as many as 65 in the second half.
