Coastal Carolina routs Piedmont 112-52

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Chad Gray scored 22 points to lead eight Coastal Carolina players in double figures in a season-opening 112-52 win over Piedmont College on Friday night.

The Chanticleers shot 62.3 percent for the game (43 of 69) while the Lions shot a respectable 42.6 (23 of 54).

However, Piedmont, a Division III team treating the game as an exhibition, was overwhelmed by the Chanticleers, who led 54-21 at halftime.

The Lions led 11-9 on a layup by Josh Haymore, but Coastal Carolina then went on a 38-6 run to blow the game open. The Chanticleers led by as many as 65 in the second half.

Danny Nieman, Desmond Holloway and Dexter Moore scored 13 points apiece for Coastal Carolina, Kierre Greenwood and Willie Kirkland had 12 each, Anthony Raffa added 11 and Brandon Crawford 10.

Michael Ross led Piedmont with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range.
