ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 points to lead Michigan to 66-35 victory over South Carolina Upstate on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

Upstate had the first basket — a 3-pointer by Tony Dukes — but Michigan scored the next 13 points, and the game was never again in doubt. The Wolverines led 36-18 at intermission and pulled away after a slow start to the second half.

Michigan got 13 points from Darius Morris, and Stu Douglass added eight off the bench.

The Spartans, in just their fourth year of Division I basketball, were led by Chalmers Rogers’ seven points.

The biggest cheer of the night came when Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson entered the arena to watch the final five minutes, hours after helping the Wolverines beat Purdue.
