SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Joe Lacob and Peter Guber believe the Golden State Warriors should be among the nation’s elite sports franchises.

That’s why they spent more money than any NBA owners in history to purchase the Bay Area’s beleaguered team.

In their first public event since their ownership group’s purchase was approved last Friday, Lacob and Guber outlined ambitious plans to resuscitate the long-struggling club Monday at a restaurant in the shadow of the Bay Bridge.

Lacob says he’ll be heavily involved with the day-to-day workings of the Warriors, who made the playoffs just once in the past 16 seasons under much-criticized owner Chris Cohan.

Lacob and Guber plan to evaluate the Warriors’ structure before making any big changes.
