EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Police say a man who threatened to blow up a van near Eugene, Ore.’s downtown post office has been arrested.
The Register-Guard says authorities earlier Tuesday evacuated nearby buildings, including the Hilton Eugene, after learning of the threat.
Police negotiators talked the man out of the van, which was parked outside the post office on Willamette Street. A bomb team found no explosives.
Eugene police spokeswoman Jen McCulley says 62-year-old Patrick Florian Smoly of nearby Corvallis was arrested for investigation of disorderly conduct.
