UNC Wilmington defeats Liberty 69-64 in overtime

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Brett Tomko scored 15 points, including a 3 to send the game into overtime, and North Carolina Wilmington defeated Liberty 69-64 on Tuesday night.

The Seahawks (1-1) outscored the Flames 10-5 in the extra period. Liberty was just 1 of 7 from the field in overtime (14.3 percent).

After a block by both teams, Ahmad Grant hit a layup and Matt Wilson sank two free throws to give the Seahawks the lead for good, 63-59 with 1:27 left to play.

The Flames (1-2) pulled within 67-64 with 35 seconds left as Jesse Sanders made just one of two free throws. Seven seconds later Tomko made both of his for the final margin.

Wilson finished with 13 points and Grant 10 for the Seahawks.

UNC Wilmington trailed 55-47 with 4:04 remaining, but ended regulation on a 12-4 run. Tomko’s 3 tied it at 59 with 14 seconds left.

John Brown scored 14 for Liberty.
