LONDON (AP) — A top IOC official has visited the cycling arena that is expected to be the first new venue completed in the Olympic Park for the 2012 London Games.

Denis Oswald, who heads the International Olympic Committee’s coordination commission for London, inspected the velodrome Thursday as work was finished on the timber track.

Oswald says the track is “yet another impressive sign of the progress that is being made” in overall preparations.

London organizers say the 6,000-seat velodrome will be completed early next year.

Oswald was joined by Sebastian Coe, head of the London 2012 organizing committee.

They visited the park site in east London on the second day of the IOC’s three-day review of Olympic preparations.
