Johnson outqualifies title rivals Hamlin, Harvick

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — Jimmie Johnson has outpaced championship rivals Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick in qualifying for Sunday’s Sprint Cup season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Johnson turned a lap of 176.482 mph and will start sixth Sunday. Harvick qualified 28th and Hamlin was 38th. Hamlin won at Homestead from the 38th starting spot a year ago.

Hamlin has a 15-point lead over Johnson and 46-point lead over Harvick in the standings.

Kasey Kahne won the pole for Sunday’s race with a lap of 176.904 mph.
