Florida Gulf Coast holds off Grambling State 74-70

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) — Reed Baker scored 23 points, including seven free throws in the last 26 seconds, to lead Florida Gulf Coast to a 74-70 victory over Grambling State on Saturday night.

Baker’s final two free throws for the Eagles (2-1) came after Justin Patton hit a 3-pointer to pull the Tigers (0-4) within a point. Baker finished with 14 free throws in 16 attempts.

Tim Snyder added 21 points for Florida Gulf Coast, but he missed 9 of his 14 free throws. Anthony Banks had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

After trailing 25-19 at the half, Grambling took its only lead of the second half, 27-26, on Lance Feurtado’s 3-pointer at the 18:17 mark. The Tigers trailed 53-51 with 8:24 left after a 3-pointer by Patton before Florida Gulf Coast scored 11 of the next 13 points, six of them by Snyder.

Patton finished with 17 points to lead the Tigers.
